Next "the most important of steps", preparing your partitions.

Step 5)To install linux on your entire hard-disk erasing all other operating systems & data select the option which says use entire disk and then click "forward". Go To Step 7.

Step 6)To install linux alongside your existing OS select "manual" and then "forward".

Now all the hard -disk partitions are displayed. Select the partition where you have free space. Click new partition and specify the size of the disk space you want to allocate to ubuntu. Select file-system as Ext 3 File Journaling System. Mount point should be "/" (quotes for clarity).

Create another partition where the file-system is "SWAP" and allocate size equal to twice the size of your RAM. (For system with RAM>1GB the SWAP space is not necessary - but you will get a warning later on . just ignore & click continue ).
