I have been waiting for a really long time for a good Linux distribution that works well with my Vaio.
I must say I am satisfied by the recent release Ubuntu 10.04LTS a.k.a Lucid Lynx. Here are few points that are worth mentioning.
- The new Nautilus allows a 'send to' option. It also supports two 'panes' in a nautilus window.
It is quite remarkably easy to drag and drop items from one pane to the other to do a simple copy, be it between partions or external harddisk and internal harddisk. - Rhythmbox finally supports syncing of my Apple ipod Touch.I was so irritated to have to boot into windows to have to sync songs to my Itouch.I guess, I am glad now!!!
- The default theme along with a rich set of icons gives a modern look to your desktop.
- Good booting speed..Trust me..With automatic login configured, it takes barely few seconds to load the desktop gadgets.
- Better gnome-Network Manager and gives better wireless connectivity without frequent disconnects
- Comes with Gwibber, a nice social networking app that is definitely worth checking out.
- Convenient mail and chat options right from the desktop.
- Overall improvements in several other aspects of the system as well.
If anybody is out there wondering if Lynx is worth checking out, I could easily say 'It is worth every minute.
