Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The principles behind FOSS are underpinned by the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. SFD is a public education effort
aimed at increasing the awareness of Free Software and encouraging its use. Software Freedom Day was established in 2004 and was first observed on 28 August of that year. Over 70 teams participated in the first Software Freedom Day. Since then its popularity has been scaling new
heights and this year the organizers anticipate more than 1,000 teams to participate in this tech fest! This year, this mega fete kicks off at 10 a.m on September 18 at Birla Planetarium in the state capital!

Are you a Linux aficionado? Are you an in and out user of proprietary software who has never heard about FOSS but ready to experiment with open source software? Waiting to spread a word about your FOSS experience to novice users? If you answered to yes to any of these, then you must be a part of the CEGLUG (CEG Linux Users’ Group).

Volunteers of CEGLUG participate in this grand fest every year with the motto of sharing their knowledge of FOSS with other volunteers from various Linux Users Groups of the state. Our goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business - in short, anywhere and everywhere! We want volunteers to help us in spreading awareness about FOSS and insinuating common folks to make a cat's paw of Open Source.
